A denomination is a family of churches that share the same beliefs and the same way of worship. The Catholic Church is a denomination, and so is the Methodist Church. ChurchOS covers one denomination at a time, always from that denomination’s own official teaching, so each family speaks for itself.
The Catholic section is live. You can read what Catholics believe, learn the prayers Catholics pray, understand the Mass, which is the name Catholics give their main service of worship, and find a Mass near you.
The Methodist Church of Southern Africa traces its teaching to John Wesley, the English preacher whose sermons and notes on the New Testament still stand as its doctrinal foundations. Its pages here will be drawn from its official site, methodist.org.za.
The worship of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa is shaped by its own prayer book of 1989, the book that sets out the words and order of its services. Its pages here will be drawn from its official site, anglicanchurchsa.org.
The Zion Christian Church is the largest denomination in South Africa, counted at 11.1 percent of the population in the 2022 census, the national count of the country’s people. The church publishes little about itself, so its story will be told carefully and with respect, from the most reliable records available.
The Apostolic Faith Mission is South Africa’s largest classical Pentecostal church, part of the family of churches born in the revivals of the early 1900s that place the work of the Holy Spirit at the centre of worship. Its pages here will be drawn from its official site, afm-ags.org.
If you lead a church and want it represented faithfully on ChurchOS, write to mapindabrendon@gmail.com. Your church’s beliefs will only ever be described in a way your church would agree is fair.
